Exactly a year ago, I posted my first Monroe Moment and I’m so grateful for the opportunities that have come my way since. I never thought about taking it past that first week, but writing this 52 weeks later… I’m so glad I did! I want to continue to share the fashion, facts and fun of Marilyn with you all, and have decided to now focus on a monthly moment. So let’s start with the September series.

This past weekend was a complete whirlwind: 48 hours in my favorite place in the world, with a to-do list that stretched from Battery Park to Washington Heights! Being away from the city always re-confirms my love for New York.

And one of New York’s most famous streets, filled with stores that a most dream to shop at is 5th Avenue. Even years after moving here, it’s a stretch of NY that always makes me smile.

Within the same series of photos that the last moment featured, (summertime) Sam Shaw followed Marilyn around 5th Avenue in a gorgeous white dress, lined with baby pom-poms.

Even though Marilyn was commonly dressed up to the nines, most of daytime looks were casual and simple. I’ve always wanted my own version of this dress, and just before I left for Maine, the amazing Rachel blessed me with one.

It felt fitting to recreate this look after having 3 months away. Marilyn loved New York, and during this period of her life she was more frequently found on the East Coast.

Dress in hand, a thrifted vintage pair of Salvatore Ferragamo* white sling-backs, The New York Times and white gloves I was set to go. Even if my hair wasn’t. Not even 24 hours prior, my hair had been freshly bleached (thank you Alex!) so any curl that was set (and trust me I had set it twice that day) dropped within the hour.

*Fun fact: so many of Marilyn’s shoes were Ferragamo’s! It felt like finding lost treasure when I found a 1950’s vintage pair in my size!

Needless to say, my hair wasn’t meant to be the highlight of this moment. Between my dress, and the shops of 5th, there’s plenty else to focus on.

Thank you Heather for being a rockstar, and always so up for my crazy Marilyn ideas! I can’t wait to share more as this month goes on!

But stiff back or stiff knee’s you’ll stand straight at Tiffany’s” couldn’t be more appropriate!

I’m writing this on my current adventure in Hilton Head, SC, forever fawning over the big apple. I’ll never quite put my finger on why I love it so much, but it’s defin

Keep an eye out on my Instagram for more photos and facts over the next month.
